Multi-Agency Walkabout Brings Positive Action to Meridian Water EstateFollowing concerns raised by local residents about anti-social behaviour and crime, police joined residents, the Council, Housing Development Team, Council ASB Team, and estate caretakers for a multi-agency walkabout around the Meridian Water Estate, Oxeye Way, N18. The walkabout was carried out in direct response to issues reported by residents, including drug use within communal stairwells and bin shed areas, burglaries, rough sleeping, and unauthorised access to residential blocks by non-residents. During the visit, residents had the opportunity to highlight areas of concern and discuss the impact that anti-social behaviour has been having on their community. Officers and partner agencies listened to these concerns and inspected several identified hotspots across the estate. A number of positive actions were agreed. Repairs will be arranged to damaged communal entrance doors, improving security and restricting access to those who do not live on the estate. Additional environmental improvements will also be explored to make communal areas safer and less attractive for anti-social behaviour. Some vulnerable locations have already been secured, and vacant flats will be advertised for occupation, helping to increase natural surveillance and community presence within the estate. The walkabout demonstrated the benefits of residents and partner agencies working together to tackle local issues. By identifying concerns first-hand and agreeing practical solutions, all agencies involved have shown their commitment to improving safety and quality of life for those living on the estate. Police and partner agencies would like to thank residents who attended and shared their concerns. Community information remains essential in helping to identify issues and ensure that resources are directed where they are needed most. Police will continue to conduct regular high-visibility patrols across the Meridian Water Estate and surrounding areas to address concerns raised by residents, gather intelligence, and provide reassurance to the community. Residents are encouraged to continue reporting any incidents of crime, anti-social behaviour, drug use, or other concerns to police and partner agencies. Information provided by the community plays a vital role in helping identify issues, target resources effectively, and take positive action against those responsible. This was a positive and productive engagement, and partners will continue to work together to address anti-social behaviour, improve security, and make the Meridian Water Estate a safer place for everyone who lives, works, and visits the area.
